Sonata® Adamed (sleeping pill) Active substance : Zaleplon

Indications:

Treatment of severe forms of sleep disorders (difficulty falling asleep) leading to excessive fatigue, hampering daily activity and impairing performance.
The treatment with zaleplon should be short-term.

Contraindications:

• Hypersensitivity
• Severe hepatic impairment
• Severe renal insufficiency
• Sleep apnea syndromeSevere pulmonaryinsufficiency
• Severe myasthenia gravis
• pregnancy
• lactation period
• Age to 18 years (efficacy and safety of use not established)

Side effects:

Amnesia, paresthesia, drowsiness, dysmenorrhea

Rarely :
Loss of appetite, nausea, dizziness, depersonalization, hallucinations, depression, confusion, apathy, impaired coordination, attention impairment, parasymia, speechdisorders, hypoesthesia, vision impairment, diplopia, hyperacia, nausea, photosensitivity reactions, asthenia

Dosing:

Sonata pills should be taken orally immediately before going to bed, 2 hours after eating or after the patient feels that he can not fall asleep.
The recommended adult dose is 10 mg. The maximum daily dose is 10 mg (the patient should be warned about the dangers of taking a second dose overnight).
For elderly patients the drug is prescribed in a dose of 5 mg (because of greater sensitivity to sleeping pills).

Special instructions: 

Before starting treatment, the patient should be warned about the short-term course of treatment and the possibility of developing a withdrawal syndrome at the end of treatment.
The duration of treatment should be as short as possible and not exceed 2 weeks. Extend treatment is possible only after a thorough clinical examination of the patient.
Sleep disorder can be the result of a physical or mental illness. If after a short-term treatment with Zaleplon sleep does not normalize or sleep disturbance progresses - the diagnosisshould be revised.
If the patient wakes up shortly after midnight (as a result of a short T1/2 of Zaleplon) - another remedy (with a longer T1/2) may be required.
!! Patients should be warned about the inadmissibility of exceeding the recommended dose.
